As you approach the stone aggregate faced cottage with hand planed timbered porch, the quiet substance of the timber posts, tie beams and tie collar posts with light and shadow casting from the pewter toned coach lamps through the symmetry of chamfered joints, extends a warm protecting invitation. Stepping onto the porch, the view through the ten light French doors piques interest that you are about to pass into the nostalgia of the charm of yester year.

Upon opening the graceful pewter toned door lever your senses are gratified from floor to ceiling. Slip your shoes off, because your feet are about to experience the subtle ripple and gentle massage of hand planed, wide plank, heart pine flooring. No machine can produce what you see and feel. The texture and color reflect the quiet patina of English Chestnut stain. The symmetry and variation of the hand pegged heart pine radiates the perfect hospitable glow of antebellum woodwork.

Wrapping the floor and transitioning to the beaded wood paneling is the “one of a kind” Stickley style wide base trim. This is where antique design meets modern convenience.The custom profiled hand planed panels are easily removed via real working, old fashioned, mortise and tenon pegs to reveal secret stow away spaces and pre conduit access for telephone, DSL or cable, if desired.

The walls and windows are reminiscent of a subdued craftsman style, but the beaded wood ceilings draw the eye and soul upward with a cathedral feel that is Augustus Pugin inspired gothic revival.

As light and shadow play across the gables and valleys from the rheostat controlled fan and light, the overall effect is serenity and quiet, subdued authenticity and ultimate meaning. The architecture combines and coalesces into a unitive element to such a profound level that one could expect to close one’s eyes and be in a quiet dacha, on holiday, facing east and glimpsing a little icon corner – that is the feel.

The objective of a quiet, secure, substantial retreat is achieved by full insulation, digital climate controlled electric AC/Heater, highest quality materials and positive screw and glue construction, all built on solid 6×6 treated full length timbers.
